1.
Preparation for slat installation
Open
the box and remove all packaging at least 24 hours before you start to
install. Leave the slat panels in the room where they will be
installed to acclimatise. Keep the temperature of the room as normal.
The
wall you intend to apply the panels to should be straight, smooth, dry
and a dust free surface.
2.
Decide on orientation for slat wall installation
Slatted
wall panels can be installed vertically or horizontally or diagonally,
this makes it easy to match the visual effect of your interior. You
will need to decide which way you are installing before cutting panels.
3.
How to cut slat wall panel
Slatted
panels are incredibly easy to cut, simply mark out your required
measurements on the back of the panel, and cut along the marked line
using either a sharp fine tooth hand saw or an electrical jigsaw, for
a neat mess-free cut. Please Note: panels should be cut with the front
face of the panel facing down (in other words the decorative side of
the slat panel faces the floor).
4.
Slatted wall panels adhesive application
The
panels should be installed using an instant grab adhesive, we
recommend our WBM PU Glue. This adhesive will ensure an instant strong
bond between the wall and the slatted wall panel. We recommend a 8mm –
10mm bead the full length of the panel every 5cms across the board.
5.
Slatted wall panels mechanical fixing & adhesive application
For
added security we would also recommend securing the slatted wall panel
to the wall, with a black wide head flange screw and appropriate wall
anchor system (plug or other) suitable for your wall, (EG solid
masonry, plasterboard, etc).
Follow
the adhesive install guidance first, then use a flanged
head screw to secure the panel to the wall.
We
recommend that you seek guidance from a local professional regarding
the wall anchor that is correct for the wall you are installing the
slatted wall panel onto. Please take care to avoid drilling into or
screwing into electric cables or water pipes.
6.
Wall Sockets
If
installing the slatted wall panels around electrical or other existing
sockets. Cut out a space for sockets and fixtures alike on the slat
panels using a jigsaw. Take measurement of the wall of where the
socket needs to be located and
transfer those measurements to the back of the panel and cut out the
required space needed for the socket. Care must be taken when working
near electrical sockets and guidance should be taken to locate hidden
wires within the wall to avoid accidents of screwing into cables.
7.
Hanging Pictures, mirrors, televisions, or other items
You
may wish to hang a tv’s or decorative items on your slatted wall
panels. Please leave this for 24 hours after you have installed the
slatted wall panels, to allow the adhesive to set completely.
The
fastenings supplied with the brackets or fixings must be able to go
through the complete slatted wall panel, then it’s extremely important
the anchor has the correct depth into the substrate behind the slatted
wall panel. By following this guidance you are ensuring the
significant weight you would like to hang is supported by the wall
behind the slatted wall panel and NOT the panel itself.
Remember,
please pre-drill the holes through the complete panel including the
slats, it is important that the hole made is through the MDF slat and
not just the black back woven panel.
